1. What these terms cover
These terms govern your use of the Hats macOS application ("the app") and the usehats.app website. By downloading or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
2. The license
The free tier of Hats is licensed to you free of charge for personal and commercial use. Hats Pro is unlocked by a one-time paid license key, valid for the machines it is activated on, per its activation limit. You may not redistribute, resell or sublicense the app or a license key.
3. Purchases and refunds
Pro licenses are sold through Stripe Managed Payments: Stripe, via Link, is the merchant of record and handles payment processing, taxes, receipts, refunds and disputes under their terms. Your statement shows the purchase as sold through Link. Refunds can be requested from Link support or from us; a refunded or disputed payment revokes the license key. If something went wrong with a purchase, contact us and we will make it right.
4. What the app does to your system
Hats writes configuration files under ~/.config/hats and adds
one clearly-marked include block to your ~/.gitconfig. It
backs up files before changing them and provides a full uninstall
(hats uninstall) that restores your configuration. You are
responsible for reviewing the changes it announces before relying on them.
5. No warranty
The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. Hats helps prevent identity mistakes in git, but it cannot guarantee that no commit or push will ever leave with the wrong identity, and you remain responsible for the contents and authorship of your commits.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hats and its author shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from the use of the app. In any case, total liability is limited to the amount you paid for your license.
7. Changes
We may update these terms as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new "last updated" date. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the new terms.
